Automated Labeling Processes

Using PLCs, vision sensors, weigh scales and other technologies to control and automate the container labeling process is the most efficient way to achieve consistent error-proof labeling. The SPEDE Line-side Labeling app interfaces these technologies to your existing WiFi network to provide real-time error-prevention at each step of the labeling process. SPEDE interfaces to host ERP/EDI systems for 2-way data exchange and automatic updates. 

Automated Labeling can include any or all of these technologies:

  • Using PLCs to count parts, supply the part detail and trigger a label to print when pack count is complete
  • Using Vision to identify "good" parts vs. scrap
  • Interfacing to a conveyor/diverter to automatically divert scrap 
  • Using Vision to validate the correctness of a part at packing - especially for multi-part production lines
  • Using Vision to prevent mix-ups of right/ left hand parts
  • Interfacing to Weigh Scales to ensure accurate part counts
  • Using USB Cameras to confirm dunnage layer is complete before next layer is started
  • Using USB Camera to photograph completed dunnage layer
  • Using OCR to read/record part number or serial number on part
  • Using a Touchscreen to display real-time part number run data and packing/labeling status at lineside
  • Printing a container label automatically when the pack count or dunnage is correct
  • Sourcing the label data from host ERP / EDI, Release Accounting  systems

Additional Functions of SPEDE Labeling Control:

  • Time stamps and logs to the SQL Database the printed label data, piece count, scrap and machine cycles data for OEE and productivity analysis
  • Maintains a Label Database of printed label data for real-time inventory, serialized parts traceability and shipping functions
  • Creates backward-traceability records linking serialized container to its individual serialized parts, back to its production data and raw/WIP components
  • Creates forward-traceability records of serialized containers shipped to customer locations
  • Displays real-time production run data at line-side for analyzing  machine efficiency and making adjustments
  • SQL database provides a detailed audit trail of all transactions
